Hi there,
Thank you for taking the time in your busy schedule to read this page!
CV
My CV can be provided upon request should the below be relevant to any opportunities you might have.
Summary
- Education: Bsc in Bioinformatics at the University of Auckland
- Experience:
- 8+ years of software development across the full spectrum of desktop, to full-stack, and even some DevOps experience with a recent focus on web development via backend software engineering, with a security focus.
- I’ve worked in a number of industries from bioinformatics/computational biology, to aerospace (satellite ground software), to banking. Each of these sectors brought their own learnings and challenges at scale.
- I undertook an exploration in AWS billing by my own volition. This led me to adjust our AWS resources to save over $1,000,000 per year and prompted further investigation within the company.
- I reworked an existing algorithm whose long run time was at risk of blocking further sales and company growth. I reduced its run-time from 9+ hours to <35 seconds, a reduction in execution time of 1000x thereby increasing productivity of an entire team and business unit.
- I built a production grade observability system from OpenTelemetry after I observed how my colleagues handled incidents and the development flow. This reduces incident response times by correlating information across the entire system automatically.
- I discovered a bottleneck in our satellite ground network where a database query took over 60 seconds, and my changes to said query reduced the run-time to circa 1 second.
- I’ve trained junior developers on software engineering concepts such as peer review process, how to unit test, language specific concepts, and Docker/containerisation concepts.
- I’m the in-house expert on JupyterHub and deploying it via Kubernetes.
- I’ve worked in DevOps too by developing our company Helm Charts and further improving them by utilising fundamental Kubernetes concepts.
- I’ve obtained a ScrumMaster certification from Agile.org.
- I’ve built a GitOps deployment using ArgoCD which automatically deploys code I write, and even entire resources via Helm Charts.
- Location: London, United Kingdom.
- Working Preference: Hybrid (2-3 days per week), or Remote (UK, EU, or USA timezones).
- Salary Expectations: £85,000 - 90,000.
- Notice Period: 6 weeks.
- Right to Work: I’m a UK and NZ citizen.
What I’m Looking For
