How did they move from their ordinary lives to achieve such extraordinary feats? And could someone living today ever do the same without spending their life’s savings?

For a long time it felt like the answer was no, that this was restricted to only those with deep pockets, and the most highly motivated among us.

So I built Footsteps.

Footsteps is based on the simple idea that every great accomplishment is the culmination of many smaller, impressive and not, steps. Even the most famous journeys began with silly mistakes and gradual experience.

Take Roald Amundsen, first man to reach the South Pole. Before Antarctica he grew up with Norwegian winters, he joined other polar expeditions to gain experience, and he led increasingly more demanding expeditions before completely the big one. The pole was not the start, but the result of many steps before it.

Footsteps applies this same principle to modern adventures. We break down lofty goals into smaller, achievable stages: learn to cross-country ski, day trips skiing across the snow, multi-day trips with outdoor sub-zero camping, local navigation before more isolated travel.

The goal is simple: make real exploration accessible without pretending it’s simple.

If this resonates with you, you can explore more at https://footsteps.quest. I’m building a community around the idea that adventure doesn’t start with a destination—it starts with a single step.
